Recent Events
As you may know there are many interesting events that go on in this country. An example is our president Evo Morales. He is the first indigenous president in history of Bolivia. Evo is also the first president to win more that 50% of the countrie's votes. Since his times in presidency there has been many big and important changes in Bolivia and he is attempting to make more. One of them is the constitution. Evo is completely changing the constitution to his beliefs.
He is also working with the Venezuelan president Hugo Chaves and with the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
Also, the government had this idea of moving the capital to another city in Bolivia which caused many problems and strikes within the people.

ACS!
ACS, what is it and what does it stand for? ACS stands for: American Cooperative School. It is an international school, where we have kids from all around the world. In spanish we call it Colegio Calvert. ACS is located in La Paz, Bolivia (this is in South America by the way. Look at a map if you still don’t know where it is). ACS is not a big school, but is not small at all either. It is divided into three main parts, the elementary buildings, the middle school building, and the high school building. There is an elementary library and auditorium, along with the theater, the high school/middle school library, as well as the main office. Then, there is also the high school and middle school band room and an art room, including the computer lab. We are almost done with the list, so don’t worry. There is also the swimming pool, the weight room, the playground, the big, medium and small soccer fields, the tennis courts, the racketball courts and the gym. Finally, the last to be described is the main gate. We have an international plaza with a fountain and benches. All of these are parts of the school campus.
We have eight classes, but only have five periods a day, so we go on a rotating schedule which is different for every grade and person every day. We have A days, B days, C days, so on and so forth until we get to H days and start with A days all over again. These are the days of our rotating schedule. In elementary, kids don’t get homework on Fridays. We are not that lucky. Homework is given every single day of the week. We get a lot of homework… (No comment). There are also lots of after school activities like soccer, track, basketball, and more where students have fun and participate with people outside of school or have games and competitions with the other schools in Bolivia. Some people just go to hang outs with their friends.
All in all, ACS is a really good school, and we hope our summary has given you a picture of how it is.

Food!!
La Paz, a city filled with great restaurants and interesting meals. Like every other capital city in the world you will find a variety of foods from all over the world, such as Furusatu (our Japanese restaurant), Chifa Emy (one of the many chifas here in La Paz), or the swiss restaurant with a elegant, gourmet menu. You can also get traditional Bolivian meals as well.
Some very popular places to eat and hangout are the cafes located in San Miguel. Alexanders Coffee is a Bolivian cafe. The owner is Steve Smith and they are famous for their delicious cookies. Café Berlin is a good place to have a Lebanese breakfast or brunch and spend some time with your friends and family. Café Beirut is known for its unique Arabic influence with meals such as humas and falafel. They also have western style foods such as french fries and nuggets.
There our some of the strangest but most delighting traditional foods here in La Paz. The salteña is a type of empanada filled with meat and/or chicken, different types of vegetables and a tasty sauce. Plato Paceño is a meal which consists of corn, lima beans, potatoes, cheese and llajwa ( a spicy tomato sauce). Last but definitely not least is the chicharron de cancho or in english, fried pig. You can generally eat it with mote.
So now you know some of the famous restaurants and foods in La Paz. Hopefully your taste buds are waiting to try some of these exotic meals, so I come our wonderful city to taste some delicious foods.

Bolivian Sports
Here in Bolivia, soccer is the most important sport. It is pretty much the only sport played here, but we also have a basketball team at the school. I, Austin Hardin am on both teams and we went undefeated last year, but besides school basketball there are very few teams for our age. There are many soccer teams for us to play on. I was recently enlisted in ABB a Bolivian soccer team. There is also Bolivar, which is the La Paz national team along with Strongest. These two teams are the reason that the greatest, most anticipated rival game of the year is always. Also as a kid playing soccer here you’re treated like a pro. Our team was on TV and in the newspapers and we travel all over Bolivia for tournaments. Another one of the great sporting options here is paintball. It is very popular, and we go almost every weekend, plus it is cheap. We also have
tournaments where we play against the military and other teams. Throughout this blog I will let you know about all the latest news in Bolivian sports.

La Paz, Bolivia is a wonderful and busy city filled with breathtaking and extraordinary places which are constantly visited day by day.There are many tourist attractions as well as major hangouts here in La Paz. For example one of the biggest and most popular would be San Miguel. San Miguel is a place that is filled with restaurants and stores, it has from a sushi bar to a toy store to a supermarket, but not only is it a major commercial area it is also a place were kids ,adults but mostly teenagers are with friends and just walk around and do nothing. Another interesting place to visit while your here is la Sagarnaga located in el Centro( which is kind of like downtown or were all the big buildings and offices are. It is also abig commercial area but mostly for hand made goods and souvenirs. Another very cool place you cant miss is las Cholas, where you can skate with friends and at the same time spend some quality time with your family due to its many attractions like for example: it has a sand volleyball court, a small field and also some swing sets and other games for smaller children. If you ever come to La Paz Bolivia be sure to visit these three locations that I listed above and I assure you that you will have a splendid visit.
Hang outs..... what are they..... how are they defined? Here in La Paz, Bolivia we have a couple of hang out places. One of the most famous ones is known to us as San Miguel or just 21 street. But what makes this place a hang out place? What makes this place like a friendly hang out place? Is the fact that everyone goes there whether its to skateboard, just take a walk, eat, maybe even shop a little. Or just that you can chill and relax there and have a nice chat with your friends? From my point of view I like San Miguel becuase as I said before you can be walking with you friends, get an ice cream, or just go have something to eat at some of the most popular teenage restaurants. But it dosent always have to be for just teenegers, there are some places for adults too, such as fancy restaurants, casinos, tanning salons, and much more. Another great hang out place which is for kids and family too would be the Burger King located on the Ballivian Street. Here at Burger King you can have the classic yet delicious burger with the family and then you can meet up with some friends to ride the simulator! The simulator is one of the reasons why Burger King is big. Its just a ride where it simulates different arenas such as volcanoes, icy mountains, and much more, its fun and safe! So i encourage you to stop by these hang out places at anytime. And remember..... be safe!!!! :)

Alasitas is one of the many traditional holidays in Bolivia. During Alasitas they sell miniature objects, like cars, college degrees, food and much more. At noon every day during Alasitas, people bring their items to the Yatiris (a traditional medicineman) to be blessed. Once their items are blessed the people believe that they will get the objects in the coming year. This is why the Alasitas market starts in January close to new years. The Ekeko (God of Abundance) grants you your wishes. He is a miniature figure that usually has a cigarette in his mouth, and he holds many things. The Ekeko is the one who makes your dreams come true.

Carnival
Carnival is like the marshmallow in a s'more, it's the word that is attatched to many images and pleasant memories. A tourist might think of traditional dances like the Diablada (translates to "The Little Devil") they will get to witness. A working father might think of the time he will have to spend with his family during the four day weekend. A very religious indigenous person may look forward to preforming a challa (A religious ritual which is similar to a blessing) on their house. But what comes to the mind of the amazing Tech 8A class? Waterballooning.
The idea of tossing waterballoons at other people and soaking them excites many teens across Bolivia. In La Paz, the main waterballooning war zones are found in San Miguel (Look at Hangouts) and outside the local Burger King. Carnival is celebrated right before Lent but the festivities have a tendency to begin as early as October. These interesting festivities attract many people to Bolivia but this year, the amount of foreigners increased. The cause is not determined but many believe that Carnival was so popular this year because Carnival and Alasitas were at the same time.
So what is Carnival? That crazy religious holiday filled with parades, dances and waterballoons.
